Wow...... I thought the Clips would fetch far more than the $600M people were throwing around, but $2B is insane lol.... so much for Grant Hill and Yao Ming's possies

Not unexpected TBH.

A former Microsoft CEO who liked to money hat everything in the gaming industry.

$2bn for him is cheap compared to the money he has thrown around lol.

I don't think he is actually going to pay $2b for it, not when the franchise is valued at $600m. Most probable a scare tactic to ward off other potential buyers, telling them that I've got up to $2b to spend. Or I suspect, out of the $2b bid, the sterling owners won't get the full amount, with some of it pocketed by the NBA.

Where are you getting a value of 600m?? Magic and his crew paid $2.2 Bil for the Dodgers so i think it was always going to go for that sort of cash.

LA is the largest NBA market in the US for NBA. Time Warner Cable pays the Lakers $200mil a year for their TV contract. Add in ticket, merchandise and other income from the NBA and you can see why he was prepared to pay that much.

People speculated based on past sale figures as NBA hasn't been as crazy as baseball prices.

Bucks - $550m ($625m was offered by Seattle bidders who wanted to relocate the team)

Kings - $535m

Grizzlies - $377m

Hornet - $338m

Pistons - $325m

Warriors - $450m

I think the $600m was low and most would have expected around 1bn to 1.2bn for an LA franchise.
