Four short months ago, the collecting world didn’t know much about Panini America’s Spectra brand aside from the fact that the company was debuting the technologically gifted product as one of its final products of the 2013 NFL season. Of course, then the product actually hit the market and proceeded to become one of the best new releases of the entire year, highlighted by a bold, new take on Panini America’s popular Optichrome printing technology, and some of the most coveted, colorful and attractive on-card autographs and memorabilia cards of the season.

The trailblazing debut of 2013 Spectra Football immediately piqued the interest of collectors and begged the question: “Would Spectra crossover to other sports?” The answer, as collectors will find out next month with the release of 2013-14 Spectra Basketball, is a profound “Absolutely!”

Slated to release July 16, 2013-14 Spectra Basketball will deliver four autographed memorabilia cards, one memorabilia card, one parallel numbered to 65 or less and two base cards numbered to 199 in every eight-card pack. A vivid new rainbow of colorful parallels awaits, including base Greens (#’d to 199), Blues (#’d to 65), Red Die-Cuts (#’d to 25), Golds (#’d to 10) and Blacks (#’d to one).

Some additional highlights of the product include . . .

  • Some of the biggest stars in the NBA are featured in the Spectacular Swatch Signatures autographed memorabilia insert.
  • The top rookies of the 2013-14 NBA season are featured in the Rookie Jersey Autographs chase.
  • Jumbo Prime Materials numbered to 10 or less.
  • The massive memorabilia of Rookie Jumbo Jerseys, featuring Prime parallels numbered to 10 and one.
  • Every card in the set is printed on thick Optichrome cards.
We’ll have plenty more to preview on 2013-14 Spectra Basketball in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. Until then, enjoy this first extended sneak peek:
